Week 2 [cont]: Scanning

Emily-1

After the worries I described yesterday regarding my scanner, or at least my scanning workflow, and the poor results it was delivering, I dug out a couple of old negatives from my Bronica that I knew were sharp and tried again.

This picture of my wife was scanned at 2400dpi, twice my usual 1200, but otherwise with my usual process and it came out just fine. This seems to indicate that either the EOS5 that I shot yesterday’s stuff on, or the film I was using are not so good.

One thing about shooting so much film for this project is that we get to know our equipment and processes a whole lot better…

    • I have an Epson v500. I shot a roll of Kentmere 400 before the Delta 3200 and every frame on it was disappointing. I guess it was either the broken lens or perhaps my processing that caused the problems.

  1. Great shot! A few things though:

    1. You’re comparing 35mm to medium format. Your scanner will have much less of a problem with it.
    2. Delta 3200 at ISO 3200 is difficult at best. And expired Delta 3200 … This film really doesn’t last much longer than its expiration date.

That said: Maybe trying a different camera and/or lens would be a good idea. I do have a Canon EOS 500N that I’d like to get rid of. Oh, and a Nikkor 50mm f/2 (manual focus) with an EOS adapter … 😀
