I am delighted to have been invited to participate in a project called “Slowing the Selfie”, an exploration of the modern narcissistic selfie trend, but using pinhole photography and film. Described thus:
“Using pinhole cameras and film, a group of regional photographers explores the juxtaposition of the modern day “selfie” and one of the oldest forms of photography. This project includes an art installation and series of free to the public events at the VALA Art Center.”
VALA, Venues for Artists in the Local Area, Eastside will host this exhibition May – June, 2016. at their Redmond Town Center art space. Everyone involved belongs to the local tribe of (pinhole) photographers, and it has been a lot of fun sharing our work and ideas as this moves forward.
Every photo submitted was created specifically for this project, and I found the assignment catalyzed renewed creative thought and effort.

Film: FUJICHROME Velvia 50 Professional [RVP50]
Camera: terraPin 6X9, f/175

This camera has a chink in its armor, in that light gets through a joint in the assembly. It’s all very Lomo, but I repeat: “Light leaks are bullshit.”

I am using a servo actuated shutter to remotely take these photos. An Adafruit Trinket (Arduino mostly-compatible) microcontroller controls the servo. The Trinket cannot output true Pulse Wave Modulation (PWD) signals, but I use a of couple clever hacks to make it work reliably. The code and wiring diagram are available at the Thingiverse link, above.

Playing in Traffic I

Playing in Traffic II – Invisible Peril! There are cars whizzing by me, but in this long exposure, they cannot be seen.

This concrete furniture is in a tiny park in Ballard.

This is exactly opposite of how comfortable it looks.

Lasers and Pinhole. I only put the laser sight on the aperture for a fraction of a second and got this dramatic flare.

“Hit Man”, Slowing the Selfie exhibit selection. If you look closely at this photo, you can see actual quantum effects as the laser is diffracted and exhibits both positive and negative reinforcement.
These rolls were processed and scanned by Moon Photo in Seattle; all images are as scanned without alteration. More photos from this and my other 52Rolls can be found HERE
I like the irregular shape to the laser.
