If you gave me a chance I would take it
It’s a shot in the dark but I’ll make it
Know with all of your heart, you can’t shake me
When I am with you, there’s no place I’d rather be
N-n-no, no, no, no place I’d rather be
— Clean Bandit – “Rather Be feat. Jess Glynn
Sometimes it’s not where you visit, or how many times you visit a place, but rather who you visit it with. Week 17 was spent back in Toronto, I was staying at Fort York overnight to be a part of some drill practice and fort demos on musketry and drill during the Battle of York commemoration weekend. While nothing as grand as it was during the bicentennial in 2013, it was still an enjoyable event and helped shake out more of the cobwebs from the off season. Although these days it takes less time to do so. While the day started off at Fort York, I made a point not to focus on the fort itself as it has already been covered in detail in this project.
After showing Heather around the fort (her first visit), we took to the streets of Toronto blazing a wide path into the downtown core. Making a quick stop at Mountain Equipment Coop because it was much colder than I had expected and I didn’t have a jacket with me. Plus I was meaning to get a new spring jacket as well. And while the distance is pretty far it’s amazing how short the time seems when you have someone with you, chatting away, pointing stuff out to each other.
And while I will try and visit new and different places, sometimes it’s just nice to visit the familiar and look at it in a new way. At least the sun was out and weather was bright so that I could shoot at ASA-25 film handheld with only a reflective meter. And while I like RPX25 in Rodinal, it really does sing just as nicely in HC-110.

I love visiting familiar places and looking for things I’ve never seen before. Thanks for posting!

Nice photographs Alex! But is that lyric not also from a Tom Waits song :-):
“When I was a boy, the moon was a pearl the sun a yellow gold.
But when I was a man, the wind blew cold the hills were upside down.
But now that I have gone from here there’s no place I’d rather be…” Cheers.

I never realized the lyric was also from Tom Waits! It was the Clean Bandit song that inspired the title 🙂
