After enjoying shooting with the Bronica SQ-Ai so much I decided to get a 80mm f/2.8 lens for it. The setup I inherited “only” included a 65mm, 100mm, and 150mm lens. And the great thing about Bronica gear is that it’s dirt cheap! I paid 30β¬ for the 80mm lens. So in week #19 is used the 80mm lens for the first time, and I really can’t complain about the results. On the other hand, my focusing skills need some work. π
Not only cheap, they are very good and sharp lenses!

Yes! I’m always amazed at the quality of the Bronica gear. Especially when considering how cheap they are today.

Very nice Urban ! I missed your earlier posts with this camera. Medium format it is wonderful…how heavy is your Bronica?

Thank you. π The Bronica with a WLF and the 80mm is rather compact and light for a medium format camera. It’s bloody heavy with a longer lens, prism and speed grip though. As nice as it is I wonder if I shouldn’t go back to a TLR instead.

Thanks! I guess you can’t have medium format at no cost :-). I have managed to get some very nice images with the Rollei a friend has loaned me, but there may be some problem with the focussing (not sure yet), so I am keeping an eye open for alternatives…

That is of course true. The Bronica is great if you want a modular camera. But that makes it bigger and also has a negative impact on the ergonomics. For example a buttons for the meter have to be on the prism, etc.

BTW, I also have a Bronica ETRSi setup that needs to go. Shoot me an email if you’re interested. π

It’s a bit big though. But I guess it’s hard to find a small and light medium format camera. π

80mm sounds like it’s perfect for most things, and man, that lensβ¦ love the bike shot, and the grain.

Thanks! I’m 100% 50mm in 135 so having a 80mm for 6×6 makes sense. Although I also love 50mm in 6×6 for some reason. That will probably be the next purchase. π

Loving my 75mm on the 6×6 Minolta, so I can understand where you’re coming from. I noticed that it compares to basically a square crop out of a 35mm lens in 135 while a landscape crop is a 45 mm lens β so wide/normal in any case. 50mm in 120 sounds intriguing β is that like a square out of a 24mm lend compared to 135?

I don’t know. It doesn’t feel much wider than the 80mm to be honest. See https://52rolls.net/2016/06/27/week-18-the-pentacon-six/ for a roll I shot with a 50mm.

Square crop equivalent of like a 28mm lens maybe? Is the view through a 50 close to what an smartphone does in instagram square format? I’d be right at home with that π

I have no idea Torsten. π Comparing 35mm and 120 is always difficult as the aspect ratio is so different. I can’t for the life of me use a 28mm lens in 135. So maybe the 50mm isn’t even that wide?

Found a thread that said the 50mm was equivalent to the 35mm lens in 135 in horizontal coverage, so not reall that wide I guess π

There’s also a 40mm for the Bronica. π

Well, that would be a 28 equivalent then and then you wouldn’t know what to do with it π

Ha ha ha. Actually I’m not totally sure that this will be the case. 50mm feels OK to me in 120 but 35mm is weird in 135. Maybe 40mm in 120 isn’t so bad after all. I guess I’ll have to try. π
