52:500c – Week 49 – Upon Avon

You’d think that with a title like “Upon Avon” I would be doing some portraits for Shakespearian actors. And you would be wrong. However, the town that I was is known rather well for their theater performances of Bard’s work. That town is, of course, Stratford. Stratford and I go way back, as in some of my very first photos with a 35mm SLR were taken in the downtown and the downtown sort of took me in. And with Christmas closing in, Heather and I took the opportunity to shop local and get most of our shopping done, which we did!

While you can find the style of architecture in any number of communities in Ontario, most of those buildings are relatively low. Stratford gives you a sense of what cities like Hamilton and Toronto looked like in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and I think that is one of the big reasons I like the city so much and what makes it incredibly photogenic. I mean it’s no Old City Montreal, but there’s nothing like that anywhere else but Montreal. The old city in Quebec City has its own unique charms. But there is only one Stratford.
