Week 52: Portland

Au revoir, 2014 — what a year you were. Full of joy, change, and 52 weeks of film. I’m glad that I have a record of my year, from that first week in Cambodia to the last week in Portland. For those carrying on with 2015, I salute you. Camera: Fujifilm INSTAX Mini 90 Neo…

Week 51: Milk Barn

Our second week at the Milk Barn brought some lovely weather an an opportunity to capture scenes from our new home. Camera: Fujifilm GA645Wi Film: Kodak Portra 400

Week 50: Instax

There are a couple of stately old maples that are a dream to photograph. Depending upon the light and weather, they can look like friend or foe. Camera: Fujifilm INSTAX Mini 90 Neo Classic Film: Fujifilm INSTAX Mini

Week 49: Pinhole

I missed an opportunity in shooting in black and white to capture the splash of colour afforded by a porta potty. And, the mini digger. Ah, life in the country with a septic system. Camera: Zero Image 200 Film: Kodak Tri-X 400TX

Week 48: Half Moon Bay

We flew down to spend Thanksgiving with friends in Half Moon Bay. It was a remarkable weekend and we shared our meal of thanks with friends and their family outside in the sunny warmth of a gloriously clear afternoon sky. Camera: Fujifilm GA645Wi Film: Kodak Portra 400

Week 47: Cathedral Park

If I’d had my way, we would have moved right next to Cathedral Park. There’s something so beautiful about the architecture of the St. Johns Bridge. It’s slowly winnowing its way into my heart right next to that big red bridge that’s further south. Camera: Fujifilm GA645Wi Film: Kodak Portra 400

Week 46: New to me camera

Though the Yunkor still works without the focussing part of the viewfinder, it’s hard to frame an image. I’ve fallen in love with the 6 x 4.5 format and began to look for a replacement. One online search led to another and I decided that try and find a Fujifilm GA645Wi. With a little poking…

Week 44: Canon Beach

Hope you don’t mind a second roll for week 44. There were only two things on our list of “cons” when we were thinking about moving to Portland — “burritos” and the 15 minute drive to the Pacific. The Pacific is a little further here, but it it glorious. We took advantage of a break in…

Week 44: Fall Color

While I love the Yunkor, if not loaded just so, you can end up with fat, squishy rolls. Fat squishy rolls are good friends with light leaks and the roll of 120 for Week 44 had a few issues — or adventures. After fourteen years in San Francisco, I’d forgotten how wonderful fall colours can…

Week 43: Kruger’s Corn Maze

Visiting a corn maze has long been on my life list and our move to Portland made that much easier to accomplish. I’m hadn’t considered how the seasonal rains would turn the paths into a sea of mud, but we did our best. I’m going to make a note to visit earlier in the season…

Week 42: World Toy Camera Day

Though we’d moved to Portland the week before, I found myself back in San Francisco to run the Nike Half Marathon. I’d packed most of my cameras for the move* and it seemed like World Toy Camera Day was going to pass me by this year. Dave Handler at Photoworks (excellent lab if you need…
