Signing Out

To all of the participants in 52 Rolls.  I am signing out of the project.  I have thoroughly enjoyed participating and having he opportunity to see the incredible work of others dedicated to film photography.   Since my first signing on the site has become inundated with advertisements and it has taken the shine off of…

11/52 What’s Swap Doc?

This roll of film began its journey in New Zealand in the hands of my friend Kali.  She has had a great influence on my photography, though I haven’t actually put the influence into practice!  It is more of a mindset of shedding the fear of taking chances through the lens.  This was great fun.…

9/52 Sao Miguel in Color

My hope is these images capture the beauty and solemnity of life on the Island of Sao Miguel.  Tourists are just scarce enough to cause people to peer out from the stoop to evaluate the newcomers.  This is a combination of different films.  Portra 160, Ektar 100 and Velvia 50 are shown.

8/52 The Mountains of Sao Miguel

The mountains of Sao Miguel are a breathtaking product of volcanic fury.  The building shown is an abandoned hotel overlooking the island from a beautiful vantage point.  These images were shot with a Leica M3 and a 50mm Summicron.  The landscapes were mostly shot using the peculiar Leica polarizing filter.  It flips up for viewing…

7/52 Doors and Windows, Ponta DelGada Acores

Just returned from a trip to this wonderful place.  I developed 4 rolls of film and the rest are off to the lab.  Here are a few shots from the beautiful alleyways of the city.  I decided to pack light and took the Contax T2 the source of these images, along with a Leica M3…

6/52 Agfa Vista 200

This week it is Agfa Vista 200.  This roll was shot at 100 since my other attempts with the film were a bit muddy.  I used the Contax G2.  I think I am getting the hang of the camera.  It is important to check the distance scale after automatic focus is achieved.  Sometimes the camera…

5/52 Fogland

I took a drive to Fogland today and shot in harsh light (again). I am experimenting with the Contax G2, thinking I might use it on an upcoming trip.  It is a difficult camera to shoot, focus is a bit finicky.  There is no functional manual focus.  With the setup I had low contrast scenes…

4/52 Let the Meter Do the Walking

Nikon F3, Portra shot at box speed which I never do and I let the meter of the F3 do the work.  Minimal editing in Lightroom to nudge the meter’s work along. These images were shot with the legendary 20mm F4 ais Nikon lens.  This lens was used extensively by the late Galen Rowell.  …

2/52 Pinhole 2

I’ll start by posting a few digital images of my camera.  It is a Zero Image 6X6.  I like it for the ability to attach a remote shutter cable.  On the back is a small disc that converts a metered reading to my pinhole size of F138.   When I use it the results seem…
